Awhile back there was this weird little scandal in the Rick and Morty fandom. The backstory is R&M uses a multiverses a lot. And a fan asked Justin Roiland if he cares that people ship Rick with Morty. Justin just said, in essence; I don’t care plus there is probably a universe where they are in a healthy relationship. Needless to say people got their panties in a twist. But I have been wondering. Who was wrong? Was it Justin for not catering to the fans, or was it the fans for not letting Justin do what he wants with his creation?
Personally, I think the fans were wrong. Justin did not endorse incest or pedophilia, he said there is a universe were they maybe a healthy couple. We see this a lot were fans and hate fans (hatefandom of something, think the anti-bronies, anti-homestuck etc) who think the creators owe them anything. The problem becomes we have people who can’t desperate themselves from the art and welcomes delusions. A good example is they weird backlash we are getting in the SU fandom were we learn how damaged the Gems are. Pearl and her PTSD and her fixation on Rose. Garnet and her having to pretend to be stronger then she is for the other gems. Amethyst and her trying to find herself.
But to the point, the reason I don’t think the creator owes the fan anything is that the fan is a byproduct of the creation. Let’s say Justin loved Rick and Morty and wants to do more with it. He may ignore the lack of money from it, the fans, and everything else. He loves his creation. And like most people I think he likes to share what he loves. But that doesn’t mean he wants to change what he loves to suit you. That is why I think it is okay to be critical of something without asking for change. I think fandoms and Tumblr need to learn to separate themselves from the product.

It’s because they’re only able to manipulate women with very little experience. If they tried their emotionally (and often physically) abusive tactics on someone older/more experienced they would fail. It’s disgusting.
